Alucard

Alucard – the main character of Hellsing series, both anime and manga. An ancient vampire aristocrat, who’s already 567 years old. His general looks and manners reveal him as one of the greatest anime characters ever made. Demon of pure evil walking the earth, giving no regards to other mortals. His attitude towards life can be described only by a single word – bore. He’s forced to work for people and the only things he enjoys in his existence is to kill or being killed (well, what else can be enjoyable for ancient almost invulnerable vampire.

Alucards visual appearance immediately gives us the right thoughts about his character and the main idea that he carries. Right away we see a vampire with blood-red eyes which are usually hidden under red glass of his spectacles. His outfit is very stylish for a 17-th or 18-th century, but as we know some clothes never get out of fashion. (Major parts of Alucard’s clothes, like his cloak and trousers, are borrowed from the outfit of Spanish inquisitors of the 16-th century) And his hat, that old-fashioned, red hat would make us look like idiots if we put it on, because it suits only Alucard. There’s only one thing that sticks out of his appearance and makes it totally perfect is the huge silver pistol, covered with engravings of another, non vampiric sense. Here his vampiric being mixes with his "vampire hunter" and his aristocracy with the freedom of will and choice of a cowboy. This cowboy, that ought to protect the simple townsfolk from harm has sharp fangs and is never against drinking someone's blood. The final touch to this portrait is the sarcastic smile of Alucard, smile of a predator that shows his attitude towards his prey.

Alucard's character is a little bit different in manga. Those chapters of manga that came before the anime, sometimes show us simple, even childlike Alucard. Those scenes are episodic and usually are between bloody battle scenes, probably for relaxation purposes, because the amount of blood and gore almost everytime goes over edge. After the broadcast of anime almost all in manga became equivalent to TV series.
