Pip Bernadotte

Pip Bernadotte is the commander of Wild Geese hired by Walter to replace Hellsing soldiers that were killed by Valentine Brothers. He is best noted for his eye-patch, his braid and a cowboy-hat with the left side flap folded up with what appears to be an emblem of a Griffin on it, he’s also a heavy smoker seen with a cigarette more often than without one. Pip is a cowboy style character with harsh and impulsive attitude. During his first debrief he insults Ceras Victoria mocking her vampire nature and absurdity if it. He is the type that will first shoot then ask questions. At first Pip is presented as perverted, stubborn mercenary, whose only purpose is gaining money, but in later chapters we see that he’s a kind and gentle romantic with high moral stakes in his life, subsequently he starts developing feelings of love towards Ceras. His background is vivid; he is thought to be British, French, Australian or American. (He often curses in different languages with different accents) But the author confirms him to be French in the back of volume 6's tankoubon, where it is stated that he is "French and loves boobs". Hirano also mentioned in a recent filler-chapter that he was of Swedish ancestry. Bernadotte is the surname of the Swedish royal house, founded by one of Napoleon's marshals. We can assume that Pip was a Frenchman with Swedish connections, or vice-versa. An interesting fact is that the current Princess of Sweden is named Victoria Bernadotte.

Never the less Pip is a side character, he’s one of the best in Hellsing manga. His two-typed nature often makes the reader to be up for him, because he is the only one whom you would want to pity.
